Del Taco

Whenever I went to California as a kid I always loved eating at Del Taco.  I was very happy when they opened up locations in Arizona.  So I am a Del Taco Fan.  Taco is in the name, so it gets you in the mood just saying the name.

The Del Taco (This is the big Crispy Taco)

Appearance = 1.0 / 2 – Half the shell was broken.  Did not look like it was handled with love.  Maybe handled with leather gloves.

Tortilla = 1.2 / 2 – It had a crunch that was not bad, but still a pre-made shell.

Meat / filling = 1.5 / 2 – The beef was juicy with good flavor.  Lots of beef and lots of cheese (which they grate at the restaurants).

Sauce = 1.5 / 2 – I have always liked there mild sauce, but I do like Taco Bell Mild better.  Everybody is different.

Value = 1.6 / 2  $1.69 – It seems like a fair value.  Taco Bell’s Crispy taco is $1.49.  How restaurants seems to work these days, food that is fresh and not processed seems to cost more.  I am sure Taco Bell’s cheese comes out of the freezer and the meat and beans I believe our freeze dried that they have to reconstitute.  Adding this in makes the value at Del Taco more compariable

Total Score 6.8/ 10

Habanero Crispy Chicken Soft Taco

Appearance = 1.5 / 2 – Looked goodish.

Tortilla = 1.5 / 2 – I do like Del’s flour tortillas.

Meat / filling = 1.6 / 2 – The crispy chicken was good, moist & tender.

Sauce = 1.8 / 2 – The first bite was good, but the 2ndI got the Habanero sauce.  That sauce makes this taco.  I have been craving it ever since.  Overall the sauce being something different, made it stand out so much to me.

Value = 1.8 / 2  $1.00 – Great price for this taco

Total Score 8.2 / 10

Chicken Soft Taco

Appearance = 1.5 / 2 – Looked good

Tortilla = 1.5 / 2 – I do like Del’s flour tortillas.

Meat / filling = 1.6 / 2 – Chicken was good as usual.

Sauce = 1.7 / 2 – Their Ranch type of sauce, is what makes this taco good as well.  I have gotten these before without sauce trying to save a calorie or two.  Don’t this one if you are going to get without sauce.  I still add Mild sauce packets to it as well.

Value = 1.7 / 2  $1.29 – Not a bad price

Total Score 8 / 10

Chicken Al Carbon Taco

Appearance = 1.5 / 2 – Looked tasty

Tortilla = 0.3 / 2 – The corn tortilla does not seemed to be cooked and is so dang dry.

Meat / filling = 1.0 / 2 – Chicken was ok, had some heat, but not a lot of flavor

Sauce = 1.0 / 2 – The sauce on the chicken was ok, still added mild, but it did not save the taco.

Value = 0.5 / 2  $1.00 – Sometimes you get what you pay for.  There are other tacos here for $1.00 or less to get instead.

Total Score 4.3 / 10

Ambiance = 6 / 10

Service = 6 / 10
